Service

A woman seeks nirvana in service to others. She is tied serving tea; the rope is not a symbol of forced servitude but rather willing service to another and the enlightenment she seeks in doing so. The outfit and setting reflect and give respect to the Japanese origins of hojojitsu, the original discipline from which kinbaku has evolved.

By Their Love She Flew

She is suspended from her heart by the birds, lifting her up when she herself could not fly without them. What do the birds represent to you? Hope? Spirit? This piece is deeply interpretive for the viewer, challenging them to consider what it is that makes their spirit fly.

Deep Hope

At the moment of contact, she reaches out to the bird that symbolizes her hopes and dreams. Against all odds upon the stormiest waters she does everything she can to reach that singular moment in time. What risks would you take to grasp your dreams? Whatever your answer, success or no, it will always be worth it to try.

Why?

As humans we struggle, every day. Sometimes those challenges are internal, within our mind and souls, as we try to discover who we are and be better than we were yesterday. Sometimes the fight is with the world, facing off against a society that wants us to be one way when we are so often another. As tough as it is, it's those struggles that define us. As we overcome, or sometimes even fail, we grow. It reveals who we are, and who we can be. These are the themes I choose to explore, to reveal the beauty and the darkness in our humanity.

We are strange, fascinating creatures.
